Who put the “love” in the loveseat?

The term evolved from the Louis XIV and Queen Anne Periods in the late 1600’s to early 1700’s and it described a small sofa primarily used to seat courting couples. In fact, loveseats were originally called “Courting Chairs.” The loveseat’s very design gave couples an opportunity to gaze into each other’s eyes.

Today, loveseats are used in smaller living spaces, bedrooms or to compliment a larger sofa.
